Honda debuted the all-new 11th-generation Honda Civic on none other than Twitch on November 17, 2020. The platform was chosen in a nod to the Civic’s evergreen popularity with younger drivers, as well as Honda’s large presence within the gaming and esports community. Arriving in mid to late 2021, the new Honda Civic gets a sporty new chassis, more powerful engine options and even more advanced safety features. The 2022 Honda Civic also gets a refreshed design, inside and out. America’s most popular car for the past four years* keeps getting better.
With the 10th-generation Civic being the best-selling car among millennials, Gen Z, and first-time car buyers**, the new Honda Civic has some pretty big shoes to fill. The Honda Fit and Honda Civic Coupe are not returning after the 2020 model year, so the new Honda Civic will now be the most affordable entry vehicle in Honda’s lineup. With tons of features, plenty of space and an attractive price tag, the new Honda Civic should easily check all the boxes.
For 2022, the Honda Civic gets a near-total redesign on its exterior and, in a sense, grows up, following Honda’s “Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum” (M/M) philosophy. Less curvy and more modern, the new Civic takes design cues from the recently revamped 2021 Honda Accord. The new Civic Sedan emphasizes a low and wide stance, has an elongated hood and strong horizontal elements that create a sense of perpetual motion. Visibility for the driver gets maximized with changes to the roof pillars and side mirrors. New taillights in the wider rear promote on-road stability with an aerodynamic look and feel. For its debut, the 2022 Honda Civic prototype was featured in a striking Solar Flare Pearl paint, but it’s yet to be confirmed if that color will be available upon release.
Inside, the 2022 Honda Civic gets minimalistic. More clean lines, less clutter and ergonomic design are the theme. A honeycomb mesh accent stretches across the dash which features a new 9-inch, HD Display Audio touchscreen and a first-ever entirely digital driver’s meter cluster. These are just a preview of more “Civic-first technologies” to come.
Throughout its long history, the Honda Civic has always been known for safety and reliability. In 2022, you can count on even more advanced features. The new Civic is getting upgrades to the standard Honda Sensing® suite of safety features and is built on a new version of Honda’s ACE™ body structure, which enhances not only safety but improves the driving experience with refined ride quality and more sporty handling.
The Honda Civic was introduced to the US in 1973 and has sold nearly 12 million units, making it one of the top three best-selling cars in America over the past five decades!*** The 11th-generation, 2022 Honda Civic is sure to continue the streak, with a cleaner look, more advanced tech and safety features and ever more powerful and efficient powertrain options. Plus, the 2022 Civic Hatchback will now be manufactured in the US, at the Greensburg, Indiana plant. The Civic Sedan has been made there since 1986 as part of Honda’s commitment to North American production.
Stay tuned for more details on the exciting new 2022 Honda Civic, as well as the official release of the Honda Civic Hatchback, Honda Civic Si and Honda Civic Type R.
