Since 1973 the Honda Civic has been satisfying American drivers with its sporty drive and affordable price. The 10th-generation Honda Civic returns for 2019 to delight a whole new era of drivers with its refreshed exterior, notable interior enhancements, standard driver-assistance technologies, and a new Sport trim. Here’s what you have to look forward to in the 2019 Civic.
Powertrain and Fuel Efficiency
Civic drivers get a choice of two engines and two transmissions. Drivers of the lower trim models may choose a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine capable of producing 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque equipped to either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT. And drivers of the upper trim models receive a 1.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder that’s paired exclusively with a CVT. This engine combo puts out a 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.
Regardless of which engine transmission combo you choose, the power of both engines is greater than average for the compact sedan segment. Plus, the most efficient Civic models when paired with the 1.5-liter engine and the CVT can achieve 32/42 mpg, putting it near the top of its class.
Interior Comfort and Infotainment
With spacious seating for five, the Honda Civic offers a comfortable ride for driver and passenger alike and plenty of room for cargo. The Civic delivers 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space, which for the sake of comparison is more than the Toyota Corolla (13 cubic feet), VW Jetta (14.1 cubic feet), and the Chevy Cruze (14.8 cubic feet). Additionally, with the exception of the base LX trim, all Civic sedans offer a 60/40 split folding rear seat for stowing larger items. The LX trim offers a one-piece folding rear seat.
Standard across all Civic trims is a 7-inch TFT instrument digital display cluster and a 5-inch infotainment screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now offered on all Civic models, excluding the base trim.
Enhanced Safety Features
All Civics are now equipped with Honda Sensing, Honda’s advanced suite of driver assistive technologies. Honda Sensing includes:
- adaptive cruise control
- collision-mitigation braking
- lane-keep assist
- automatic high-beams
They’re the type of safety features you expect from Honda and the type of features other automakers make you pay extra for.
Building on the Civic’s inherently sporty appearance, the Sport trim nests right above the base LX. The Sport trim can be fitted with either a manual transmission or a CVT and achieves its sporty looks with:
- large 18-inch alloy wheels
- decklid spoiler for the sedan
- black lower front fascia for the coupe and the sedan
Plus, all Sport trims include:
- fog lights
- keyless access
- leather-wrapped steering wheel
- push-button start
- eight-speaker audio system
- and a slightly larger 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
For drivers looking for a sporty drive on a budget, the 2019 Civic Sport trim is a great choice. It delivers the style and agility you look for in a sporty vehicle but retains its affordable Civic price.
