Honda delivered the very first Fit EV not so long ago, to the municipality of Torrance, California. Don't worry, it's coming to Tracy Honda shortly, but not before Honda runs extensive tests on it to better understand the real-world implications of the EV lifestyle. But Torrance won't be the only group providing feedback to Honda - both Google and Stanford University have stepped up to tes the EV, as well.
All three participants are carefully tracking their use of the vehicle, as well as MPGe, recharging times, energy costs, and any challenges they face on a day-to-day basis. Because, Honda wants to be sure they've covered all of their bases before they start to deliver Fit EVs around the country. This will also further enable the team at Honda to come up with more ideas about the future of EV technology.
"Honda has a long history with electric vehicles, beginning with the introduction of our first battery-electric car, the EV Plus, nearly 15 years ago," says Steve Center, VP of Environmental Business Development at American Honda. "Honda's experience and unique feedback that Google, Stanford University and the city of Torrance will provide will be valuable to the future introduction of battery-electric technology."1
What many people don't know, however, is that Honda and Stanford have been working together for the last year to understand the greater implications of a switch to EV technology. Specifically, Stanford wants to further understand the psychological and physical reactions to driving battery-electric vehicles. As it turns out, they're very different than in a traditional gas-powered vehicle. By using both a regular Honda Fit and a Honda Fit EV, Stanford can compare research results, helping Honda face any physiological stumbling blocks when encouraging customers to switch to EV technology.
Will you be ready to adopt EV technology when the Fit EV hits showrooms this summer, or will you wait to see how the technology further develops? Remember, you can always stop by Tracy Honda at 3450 Auto Plaza Way Tracy, CA 95304 to learn more about all of the ways Honda is helping drivers live a greener lifestyle.
