Young people from the first generation to grow up fully-immersed in millennial-technology have reached the age where they're making their first big purchases. After college, many younger buyers start scouring the market for a car that's not just top-notch in performance, but is chock-full of technology and style. After all, those are the things that have define the millennials, and there's certainly no reason to drive a car that isn't tailor-made for the fast-paced lifestyle of the 21st Century.
What does that mean for Honda, and more specifically, for their luxury arm, Acura? Jon Ikedia, Head of the Design Studio says, "First-time luxury buyers place the highest value on exterior styling, affordability and environmental issues."1 So, they're starting with their ILX Concept, the first hybrid power train for Acura, which also includes standard features like voice-recognition software for in-car texting, and a Pandora internet radio interface. Not to mention, it boasts some pretty sleek design language.
Powered by a 2-Liter, 4-cylinder engine, the base model is positioned as a gateway into the luxury lineup from Honda. Other options include a higher-performance 2.4-liter four-cylinder paired to a six-speed manual transmission, or a 1.5-liter gasoline-electric hybrid option. The sedan, based on the Honda Civic, is aimed at a luxury-minded audience with a tight budget. That's right, a luxury car for under $30,000.
You can be sure that Honda is working to infuse technology, features, and styling elements that appeal to younger generations - throughout their lineup.
