It certainly wouldn't be the Le Mans 23 Hours endurance race if Honda didn't decide to shake things up a bit. Take for example, this year when, Honda presented the world with a new hybride race car, based Honda CR-Z, at the "Le Mans vers le Futur" special exhibition. Presented by the Automobile Club de l'Quest (ACO), the organizers of the world-famous endurance race, the exhibition focuses on ways that the automotive industry can work to make the race more sustainable.
Honda first presented the world with their racing CR-Z hybrid coupe at the 2011 SEMA show in Vegas. It makes perfect sense for Honda to bring this technology to the racing world, given the fact that they are an industry leader in terms of hybrid vehicle production. For the development of the CR-Z hybrid coupe racecar, Honda looked to their racing group, Honda Performance Development. Honda's first move with the CR-Z hybrid coupe racecar, after unveiling it, was to enter it into the Thunderhill 25 hours in San Francisco. And, it was there that the CR-Z hybrid coupe racecar impressed the world with a second place finish in its class.
The Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe racecar was originally developed so that it could be tested in real-life racing conditions. Over time, the racecar was perfected by Honda Performance Development, and as a result, the CR-Z hybrid coupe racecar was shown off to the industry as a whole in order to give valuable insight into what it takes to create a class-leading racer.
